Bedsores Cause Death of Elder Palm Desert, California Resident

Bedsores Cause Death of Elder Palm Desert, California Resident

Recently, a 74-year-old Palm Desert man was found to have a gaping wound which completely exposed some of the bones of his spine.  three days latter this elder was found Dead, cause of Death, EColi Infection, Sepsis and septic shock, acute blood loss, multiple bedsores, infected toenails, severe dehydration, a urinary tract infection and malnutrition, according to the coroner’s autopsy.

The skilled nursing facility in this matter was actually charged for criminal elder abuse.  The bedsores were so bad and infected that the local hospitals attempt to resuscitate this individual were too late.

The medical records were incomplete, with no actual charting of any medical care on many days of this elder’s facility residency.  The facility was charged with both violation of many state and federal violations, and was fined $50,000.00.  The civil matter ended up with a substantial confidential settlement.
