Atha Jo Mallare, an 85 year old women from Napa, is suing the now closed nursing home facility ‘A Hidden Knoll’, claiming that they neglected her needs. Allegedly while Mallare was staying at the residential care facility her family found her on a bed with her hands bound with a piece of plastic and a sheet wrapper around her wrists. And these allegations aren’t completely out of the blue, in fact two months before A Hidden Knoll nursing home closed they were cited for using restraints on one of the residents.
Although Mallare was able to be independents despite her dementia, she lost over 30 lbs during her stay and couldn’t eat, walk, or talk clearly with her friends and family. She was also soiled and had bed sores / bruising on her body.
Even though the facility claimed that they could take care of people with dementia the suit claims that they clearly could not and unfortunately were not trained properly to do so.
Luckily since moving out of the care facility Atha Jo Mallare is doing much better, regaining some color in her face, talking again, and much more alert.
